Members get early access! Be among the first to see this groundbreaking exhibition.

Members are invited for a first look at Wonders of Creation: Art, Science, and Innovation in the Islamic World, an all-new exhibition exploring intersections of science and craft in Islamic material culture and contemporary art. Using the lens of “wonder” as defined in the celebrated 13th-century text by Zakariyya al-Qazwini describing the wonders of the universe as a framework, visitors will see and explore more than 200 works, including illustrated manuscripts and paintings, maps, scientific instruments, magic bowls, luster dishes, architectural elements, and contemporary art.

Wonders of Creation: Art, Science, and Innovation in the Islamic World is on view at The San Diego Museum of Art from September 7, 2024, through January 5, 2025, and will then travel to the McMullen Museum of Art, Boston College. The exhibition is accompanied by a full-color catalog with original research and contributions from leading international scholars that can be purchased at The Museum Store.

The Members’ Preview will be held on Friday, September 6, from 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Timed entry tickets are required for this member benefit event. Tickets are available starting Monday, August 12 at 10:00 a.m. PT.
