Created by Grammy-winning Icelandic-Chinese musician Laufey, A Very Laufey Day is an annual fan event celebrated globally where fans follow local curated itineraries to visit museums, libraries, cafes, bookstores, and other cultural institutions. Laufey inspires her fans to explore offline “third spaces” cultivating their curiosity and romanticizing their everyday lives though arts and culture.
The San Diego Museum of Art is an official Celebration of the Arts stop for A Very Laufey Day 2026. We’ve crafted the ultimate art lover itinerary for this themed day at the Museum across both our locations and throughout Balboa Park at large. You don’t have to do everything on the list, but whatever you do make it beautiful and memorable.
A Very Laufey Day Itinerary
- Walk the galleries at SDMA and MOPA@SDMA*
- Take any of our free guided docent tours, including our newest Art + Wellbeing Tour*
- Pick up a free junk journal page at SDMA to commemorate your day (while supplies last)*
- Sketch in the galleries*
- Visit The Museum Stores at SDMA and MOPA@SDMA
- Put on your favorite outfit and see Cecil Beaton’s Fashionable World at MOPA@SDMA*
- Snap your own portrait at the photo op inside MOPA@SDMA
- Enjoy the Laufey-themed mocktail Rhapsody in Blue at Panama 66*
- Read on a blanket in the May S. Marcy Sculpture Garden
- Enjoy a jazz and R&B performance by Whitney Shay at the Museum restaurant Panama 66 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.*
- Ride the Balboa Park Carousel*
- Visit the Botanical Building and gardens
- Take photos in front of the Balboa Park lily pond
- Tour the California Tower*
- Visit the Spanish Village Art Center
