Ladan Akbarnia, Curator, South Asian and Islamic Art, speaks about the Museum’s Binney Collection. The San Diego Museum of Art has been the beneficiary and the conservator of several collections but none as large as the Binney Collection. Items from Edwin Binney 3rd (1925–1986), an heir to the Crayola fortune, include world-renowned paintings and miniature sculptures from the 2nd to 16th century. Parts of the collection have been exhibited at the Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec, Museo Nacional de Antropología, Mexico City, and the Museo ThyssenBornemisza, Madrid.
