Join us for the premiere concert of the new Portraits in Jazz series! 2017 San Diego Jazz Hero Gilbert Castellanos presents a tribute to Duke Ellington and his orchestra featuring the Gaslamp Quarter Jazz Orchestra. Ken Poston, Station Manager of Jazz 88.3 and Director of the Los Angeles Jazz Institute, will give a talk at 8:00 p.m. before the concert at 8:30 p.m.

This premiere concert will feature original arrangements as recorded by the prolific big band composer and leader Duke Ellington. Gaslamp Quarter Jazz Orchestra, an 18-piece big band, is comprised of the finest musicians in San Diego, and, along with special guest musicians, they are sure to bring swing to the Museum.

Jazz vocalist and classical guitarist Lorraine Castellanos will be giving a pre-concert dinner performance in Panama 66’s courtyard from 6:00 – 7:50 p.m. Beer, wine, and refreshments will be available for purchase from Panama 66 during the concert. No food allowed inside the auditorium.

Pro tip: If you plan on having dinner at the Panama 66 pre-show, we suggest arriving at 6:00 p.m. to due to high volume business. Food will not be allowed in the auditorium.
