Sowparnika (Sowbi) Balaswaminathan, is a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Anthropology in the University of California, San Diego. She studies the culture and manufacture of South Indian bronzes. Her interests are sociocultural anthropology, ethnoarchaeology, museology, and art and craft policy. Her presentation examines the religious, artistic, archaeological, and commercial context of art production in the sculptor community of Swamimalai.
