Position Summary

The Carolyn Wolf Summer Internship in Community Engagement, named after former Museum docent Carolyn Wolf, offers a unique opportunity for students and graduates interested in pursuing a career in museum education. Established through a fund created by Mrs. Wolf’s family, this 10-week, paid internship is designed to provide hands-on experience and contribute to the Museum’s educational initiatives.

Reporting to the Manager of Art & Empathy Programs, Projects and Innovation, the Carolyn Wolf Intern, will collaborate closely with the Director of Community Engagement and Education Programs and assigned docents to research, plan, and co-develop an achievable and sustainable outreach program proposal to Mesa College. The intern will also work closely with the Manager of Art & Empathy Programs, Projects and Innovation to organize and digitize the Lynn Fayman archive held at the Dubois Library at MOPA@SDMA.

Key responsibilities

  • Research and assist Docents on the development of a formal proposal document for the implementation of Docent outreach programs to Mesa College.
  • Build relationships with students, student organizations, faculty, and staff to identify outreach program opportunities.
  • Conduct research to identify student needs and interests; collect and analyze feedback to improve outreach efforts.
  • Co-develop a pilot outreach program and track attendance.
  • Assist on the organization and digitization of the Lynn Fayman archive.

Qualifications

  • College student or graduate interested in pursuing a career in museum education.
  • Art history knowledge is desired.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
  • Proficiency in digital research and organization.

Physical Demands

  • 60-80% time spent sitting at the computer.
  • Some carrying and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Daily walking required to the Museum, which includes stairs.
  • Occasional walking between two Museum sites within the park.

Work Environment

  • Office space shared.
  • Noise level ranges from quiet to moderately noisy.

Rate of pay: $17.00 per hour
