Juan Sanchez Cotan and Cauleen Smith Mystical Time and Deceptive Light Catalogue

$12.95

A contemporary American filmmaker responds to an iconic 17th-century Spanish still life in this publication that accompanies the 2020 exhibition Juan Sánchez Cotán and Cauleen Smith: Mystical Time and Deceptive Light. The dialogue began when artist Cauleen Smith visited The San Diego Museum of Art and became fascinated with one of the gems of the collection, Quince, Cabbage, Melon, and Cucumber by Juan Sánchez Cotán and then set out to create a filmic response to the work. The careers of both artists are explored in essays by Victoria Sancho Lobis and Michael Brown, along with full-page illustrations, including all extant still life works by Sánchez Cotán.
