Speaker: Annie Buckley, Director, San Diego State University School of Art + Design and Founder and Director, Prison Arts Collective

 

Join the Arts Education Council for a discussion with Annie Buckley as she gives an insider’s perspective of San Diego State University’s School of Art + Design. She will discuss art trends, teaching virtually, today’s art student in an urban environment, and outreach in the community.

Ms. Buckley is an artist, writer, and educator with an emphasis on art and social justice. She is an award-winning professor and the director of the School of Art + Design at San Diego State University. Her photo-collage and participatory art has been included in museum and gallery exhibitions, and her writing about contemporary art is published widely, including in Artforum International Magazine, Art in America, The Huffington Post, and Los Angeles Review of Books, where she is a contributing editor. Ms. Buckley is also the founder and director of Prison Arts Collective, an initiative dedicated to expanding access to the arts to those are incarcerated. She has been awarded prestigious grants from the California Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts for this work.
