Thank you for being a part of Art Alive 2017

Each spring, the Museum’s signature fundraiser and floral exhibition draws visitors to view inspiring botanical displays and innovative art installations, participate in flower-themed activities, and enjoy the festive atmosphere. For the 36th annual edition, bright colors and bold designs were at the forefront and over 12,000 visitors were wowed by the Museum’s vibrant transformation, raising more than $1.3 million benefiting public programs and exhibitions.

The event was inaugurated by the Premiere Dinner on Thursday evening for the Art Alive Honorary Committee, held in the Hibben Gallery, amidst highlights of the Museum’s collection of Surrealist art.

Along with the many beautiful arrangements and the gems of Surrealist art on view—a steel art tree from local artisans at NatureMaker in Carlsbad, graced the middle of the gallery. The fabricated “oak tree” was originally designed and installed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the 2011 Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty Gala.

The exclusive Members’ Preview kicked off the festivities on Friday morning as Museum members voted for their favorite floral interpretations. Franco—a four-time rotunda designer—was inspired by the Surrealist works in creating his design entitled FloraMorphic: A Sky of Colors. This immersive installation invited guests to enter a “surrealist dream of sunrise and sunset” began outside the Museum’s entrance and traveled to the second floor rotunda.
